How does it actually clean the teeth?
Pine fiber is mildly abrasive — as your dog chews, the fibrous texture works mechanically on the teeth, helping lift plaque and reducing tartar buildup over time. Silicone toys are smoother and don't have this abrasive action, which is why they don't contribute to oral hygiene the way a fibrous chew does.

How is this different from a dental stick?
Two main differences. First, calories — dental sticks are food and add to your dog's daily intake; this is a chew toy and doesn't. Second, duration — the abrasive effect of a dental stick lasts the few minutes your dog eats it, while Baby Palm continues working as long as your dog chews on it.

Is the pine fiber safe if my dog swallows small pieces?
Pine fiber is non-toxic and biodegradable, so small pieces from normal chewing pass through without harm. As with any chew toy, supervise use and replace the chew when it becomes small enough to swallow whole. Discard immediately if it splinters.
