Aran Alpaca Dog Sweater – Camel

We selected Alqo Wasi Aran Alpaca Sweater for cold-weather walks where a synthetic fleece looks wrong with the rest of the outfit. The Aran diamond knit is the classic Irish-fisherman pattern translated to alpaca — softer, warmer, and naturally hypoallergenic, so no itching for sensitive skin. Handcrafted, with a leash opening at the back so the harness underneath stays accessible. Camel is the soft, neutral tone that pairs with anything.

Slip the sweater over your dog's head, guiding the front legs through the sleeve openings. Smooth the knit down across the back so the leash opening sits centred between the shoulders. If your dog wears a slim harness underneath, the leash clips through the opening to the harness D-ring or clasp — pull the leash through before clipping. Remove by reversing the process.

Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Lay flat to dry — never wring or tumble dry. Reshape gently while damp to preserve the knit. Store folded, away from direct sunlight, to keep the colour. Natural shadings and slight variations in the alpaca are part of the handcrafted process and are not defects.

How do I measure for the right size?
Three measurements: back length (base of neck to base of tail), neck circumference, and chest circumference at the widest point behind the front legs. Match all three to the size chart and choose the size where your dog fits within all three ranges. If your dog is between sizes, size down — the sweater is meant to fit close.

Will it itch on a sensitive dog?
Alpaca is naturally hypoallergenic and lanolin-free, which is the difference between alpaca knits and wool ones. Dogs with skin sensitivity to wool tend to tolerate alpaca well. The 5% wool content in the blend is minor enough not to trigger most reactions, but if your dog has a confirmed wool allergy, patch-test with a short wear first.

Does it work over a harness?
Yes. The leash opening at the back lets you clip into the D-ring or clasp of a slim harness worn underneath — the Curli Air-Mesh and similar layering harnesses work well. Bulkier harnesses with thick padded straps will distort the knit and aren't recommended.

Alqo Wasi means “dog home” in Quechua — and the sweaters feel like it. Each piece is hand-knit in Peru using alpaca fibre and traditional Andean weaving techniques. Lighter than wool and warm without the bulk, they work indoors, outdoors, and through the part of winter where your dog suddenly refuses the morning walk. We carry it because the cut matters as much as the fibre. Shorter backs, cleaner belly lines, and proportions made for small dogs — not scaled-down guesses.
