How often should I wash my small dog?
How often should I wash my small dog?
For most healthy small dogs, every 3–4 weeks is a good routine. Bathe sooner after muddy adventures or particularly messy days. Between baths, cleaning paws or spot-cleaning is often all that's needed.
Why do small dogs seem to need baths more often?
Why do small dogs seem to need baths more often?
Because they live closer to your life. They're carried, sleep on the sofa, jump on the bed, and spend more time on furniture than many larger dogs. They also sit closer to wet grass, muddy paths, and city pavements, so they often pick up dirt more quickly.
Do I need both shampoo and conditioner?
Do I need both shampoo and conditioner?
If your dog has a long, silky, curly, or tangle-prone coat, usually yes. Shampoo cleans the coat, while conditioner helps reduce knots and makes brushing easier. For many short-haired dogs, shampoo alone is enough.
Can I use my own shampoo on my dog?
Can I use my own shampoo on my dog?
No. Human shampoo is made for human skin, not canine skin. Dog shampoos are formulated specifically for dogs and are the better choice for regular bathing.
Which shampoo is best for sensitive skin?
Which shampoo is best for sensitive skin?
Start with a gentle dog shampoo that's lightly fragranced or fragrance-free and avoid changing products too often. If your dog has ongoing redness, itching, or recurring skin problems, it's worth speaking to your veterinarian to rule out an underlying cause.
