What grooming tools does every small dog owner need?
Start with the basics: a brush or comb suited to your dog's coat, a towel or bathrobe for drying, and the right grooming tools for your routine. Building a small kit you'll actually use is more helpful than buying everything at once.
Do small dogs need different grooming tools?
Do small dogs need different grooming tools?
Usually, yes. Smaller dogs benefit from tools that are easier to handle around delicate faces, finer coats, and smaller bodies. The right size often makes grooming more comfortable for both of you.
Do I need both a brush and a comb?
Do I need both a brush and a comb?
Ideally, yes. A brush removes loose hair and keeps the coat looking its best, while a comb helps find small tangles behind the ears, under the legs, and around the collar before they become mats.

Keep sessions short. Two or three minutes every day is usually more successful than twenty minutes once a week. Reward calm behaviour and stop while your dog is still comfortable. Consistency builds the routine.
Which brush is right for my dog's coat?
Which brush is right for my dog's coat?
The coat matters more than the breed. Slicker brushes work well for many curly and longer coats, pin brushes suit silky coats, and combs help finish the job by checking for hidden knots. The right tool makes grooming easier for both of you.
Should I brush my dog before or after a bath?
Should I brush my dog before or after a bath?
Before. Brushing removes loose hair and small tangles before water has a chance to tighten them. Once the coat is completely dry, a quick brush helps bring everything back into place.
