The Small Dog Size Guide

Small dogs. Big difference.

Because what fits a Labrador doesn’t fit a Maltese.

Our Sizing Philosophy

Most brands design for big dogs, then shrink everything down.

We start with small dogs — their shape, their movement, their comfort.

This guide is how we get the fit right, every time.

Small Dog Sizing Guide

Size Down (Usually)

Between sizes? Go smaller.

Most small dogs are more comfortable in a snug fit — especially around the chest and shoulders.

Too big means twisting, bunching, or even tripping.

For dogs 2–8 kg:

  • Snug = stays in place
  • Snug = looks right
  • Snug = safer (no tripping, catching, slipping)

Between 32 cm and 36 cm? Choose 32 cm.

Size Up (Sometimes)

Between sizes? Go bigger.

French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, English Bulldogs

Barrel chests + breathing space = size up.

Puppies under 8 months

They’re still growing. Size up.

Layering

If it’s going over another layer, size up on the outer.

If You’re Not Between Sizes

Choose the size that matches your dog’s chest measurement most closely. Chest fit matters most — everything else follows. If it fits well around the chest, the rest will sit right.

By Product Type

Size down: sweaters, bodysuits, snoods, collars, raincoats, jackets

Why: A closer fit keeps warmth in, prevents tripping, and looks more flattering on small frames.

Clothing should stop just before the tail — not cover it.

Size up: harnesses for pullers, recovery suits, or dogs with broader chests.

Why: These need extra space for comfort and breathing.

By Breed

Wide chests (Frenchie, Pug, Boston Terrier, English Bulldog) → Size up

Long bodies (Dachshund, Corgi, Basset) → Measure back length, not chest

Fine-boned (Italian Greyhound, Whippet) → Size down

Fluffy (Pomeranian, Bichon, Maltese, Shih Tzu) → Measure under the fur

How to Measure

Chest – Widest part of ribcage, just behind the front legs. Leave room for two fingers.

Neck – Base of neck, where a collar naturally sits. Two fingers under the tape.

Back length – From base of neck to base of tail, while your dog stands naturally.
